LANA'S ANGELS LIVE

LANA'S ANGELS LIVE

To understand the vision of Fox Eye Productions LLC. (FEP), one must look into the history that has helped to shape the brand.

Founded by Lana Kai Fox, FEP is a home for entertainment; telling stories of the unheard, glorifying black lives, giving the underdog a platform, rising to any occasion and creating a world of beauty and abundance for the black and LGBTQ+ communities. With over ten years in the professional dance industry, Lana Kai Fox has gained experience and knowledge that has led to the creation of her own production company. The importance of many basic standards has been lost in today’s industry. Standards such as talent treatment, production quality, stage lighting, individuality, and fair representation. Through personal experiences of not being treated with respect, being treated as just a number, or simply having the correct lighting on stage as a black girl, Lana is passionate about creating opportunities for individuals who want to be their own star. Specializing in burlesque, the first event will encompass the overall vision of FEP. The event is an all black casted burlesque and dance show. Burlesque history, not too far from American history, is filled with inequalities and unique challenges for the black entertainer. When one searches burlesque, the names and faces of those that come up are those of white women. Although burlesque is now more widely recognized, the aesthetic seems to be catered to the classic pin-up white woman, with most burlesque groups often including one or two black women. There are many reasons for the lack of black entertainers in these majority white spaces. From hairstyling to cultural norms, it can be arduous to integrate into an entertainment space that was not created to accentuate the full spectrum of black beauty. Iconic performers Eartha Kitt, Josephine Baker, Jean Idelle, and Joyce Bryant are all inspirations for black glamour. During their time, black performers were often only booked if they would perform acts with racist stereotypes. For example, Josephine Baker and her famous satirical banana skirt act. Additionally, performing for or alongside white people was the only way the performers could gain wide recognition. Even with the success and worldwide reach, these performers were still not paid equally. It is known that the pay of black performers was much lower than the rates of their fair-skinned peers.

This show will be a catalyst for change. The show will embody the struggles and triumphs of the past and present. It will show brown skin in a way that is reminiscent of a ‘Black Heaven’. The styling, lighting, choreography, and production will be of the highest quality. Taking the audience on an immersive journey, the stories of the performers will be told with power and class. The show will be representative of black culture including everything from vouge to traditional burlesque to African dance. Serving as a base for future shows, ‘Lana’s Angels Live’ will be malleable and continuously improved. The overall mission of FEP is to entertain, tell stories of the unheard, glorify black lives, give the underdog a platform, and create a world of beauty and abundance for the black and LGBTQ+ communities. This mission will be accomplished with excellence, attention to detail and on a scale that has not been seen before.
